Five things that actually help during pollen season

By · · 3 min read

Cloth wiping a clean stripe through yellow pollen on a windowsill

If your car is yellow every morning in May, your floors and windowsills are too. These are the things we tell clients who ask.

  • Shoes off at the door. This one makes the biggest difference.
  • Dust with a damp microfiber cloth, not a dry one. Dry dusting just moves pollen into the air.
  • Wash bedding weekly in hot water.
  • Change your HVAC filter. Most people are overdue.
  • Keep the windows closed in the morning, when pollen counts are highest.

We also wipe down windowsills and sliding door tracks on every spring visit, because that is where it collects.

The yellow film on our porch this year was unreal. Damp cloth first, then vacuum. Got it.

Changing HVAC filters more often in spring made a big difference for my allergies.
