Why we don’t use bleach on everything

By · · 3 min read

Plain spray bottles and folded microfiber cloths on a kitchen counter

Clients sometimes ask why their house does not smell like a swimming pool after we leave. It is on purpose. Bleach disinfects, but it does not clean grease, it can etch stone, and it fades grout and fabrics.

What we use instead

  • A pH-neutral cleaner for granite, quartz, and sealed wood.
  • A degreaser for stovetops and range hoods.
  • Hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant for bathrooms and high-touch spots.
  • Plain warm water and microfiber for glass and stainless.

We still keep bleach for one thing: mildew in shower grout, and only when the client says it is okay. If you have a product you prefer, or something you are sensitive to, tell us and we will use yours.

I had no idea bleach could damage grout over time. That explains our shower.

Can I ask you to use my own products? My daughter has a fragrance sensitivity.

Absolutely. Just leave them out and add a note to your booking. We also carry fragrance-free options if you prefer.

Switched to vinegar and water for my windows after this. Streak free.
